A research study published in the
journal Diabetologia has a very interesting piece of news to share with you!
Now you can cut down your risk of
developing Type 2 Diabetes simply by consuming one healthy, delicious treat.
Yogurt has long been praised for its many benefits. Now, there is one more
reason to indulge in this delicious offering.
The study identified that people who
consumed low-fat, fermented yogurt and even cottage cheese regularly were 24
percent less likely to develop Type 2 Diabetes compared to those who didn’t.
Leaving off the other low fat
fermented foods, yogurt alone shows a 28 percent reduction in the risk. The
people in this category consumed a little over 500 grams of yogurt in a week.
The study shows that choosing a
yogurt over a packet of crisps or any other junk food for a snack had a
tremendous impact. There was a whopping 47 percent reduction in the risk.
This evidence is based on an 11 year
long health survey conducted among 3500 Britons in Norfolk. The next line of
research is intended to find out whether the beneficial effect of yogurt is due
to the presence of ‘good’ probiotic bacteria in it and a type of Vitamin K that
they produce.
The researchers warn that reduction
in the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes is observed only when low-fat
fermented dairy products are consumed. Drinking milk or consuming any other
high fat fermented products have no effect.
