Most of us agree that ginger packs a
punch in the food and makes it tastier! But if ginger can also provide relief
from arthritis, there is more reason to add this spice as often as possible in
food!
The researchers from University of
Miami compared the relief obtained from ginger versus a placebo in 247 participants
with osteoarthritis. The participants were divided into two groups. One group
was given a 255 milligrams dose of highly concentrated ginger extract
supplement twice a day for a period of 6 weeks. The other group received a
placebo.
About two-thirds of participants who
took the ginger supplements showed improvements in arthritis, including relief
from joint discomfort and pain. The relief and effects of ginger was found to
be comparable to what common pain medications offered.
The results have been so promising
that the team is confident that one day ginger will easily replace
non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for treating arthritis.
Now, that you know why ginger should
not only be in your spice section but also your medicine cabinet, it’s also
necessary to see in which form it is most effective.
While gingerbread, ginger tea and
ginger snaps all sound divine, they have very low concentration of ginger to
actually be effective. But there are capsules available in all most health food
stores that contain a highly concentrated form of pure ginger that is found to
be most effective when it comes to treating arthritis.
You can also get the natural
goodness of ginger by grating fresh ginger in salads or soups!
But if you really want to get rid of
arthritis, there’s this really powerful method.
