Flaxseeds, A weapon against High Blood Pressure

According to a recent article published in the journal Hypertension, the number one worldwide reason for a visiting a doctor is high blood pressure.
And the only resource most doctors feel they have is to put the patient on dangerous blood pressure drugs for life.
However, researchers from Canada discovered that a well known seed, found in all supermarkets and health food stores, lowers blood pressure more than 15 points.
This is more effective than most drugs – without any side effects.
A recent study conducted by Canadian researchers reveals that flaxseed effectively reduces blood pressure.
The study trial involved 110 individuals diagnosed with peripheral artery disease (plaque build-up in the arteries in the lower legs) and suffering high blood pressure.
Study participants were divided in two groups. One group was instructed to consume a variety of foods that also contained about 30 grams (about one ounce) of milled flaxseed.
The other group was given the same kinds of foods that didn’t contain any flaxseed.
After a six month long experiment, researchers discovered that in the flaxseed group the systolic blood pressure measurement (the top number) dropped by 15 points on average. And the diastolic blood pressure (the bottom number) was lowered by 7 points.
There was no blood pressure reduction in the study group that consumed no flaxseed.
Researchers conclude that this is one of the most powerful dietary supplements ever studied.
Flaxseed has many other health benefits as well. It is loaded with Omega-3 fatty acids, lignans, vitamins and powerful antioxidants. These nutrients are crucial to maintaining good cardiovascular health.
The great news is that flaxseed is quite inexpensive and can be found all over the world in most of the big supermarkets or health food stores.
You can use it in seed form, milled. In this way it can be added to cereals and shakes or sprinkled over salad. Flaxseed oil has also been proven extremely effective to tackle all kinds of inflammation conditions.

How Women can Protect themselves from Endometrial Cancer?

A healthy diet (that includes a daily cup of coffee), keeping weight down and regular exercise can protect women from endometrial cancer, the most common malignancy affecting the female reproductive organs (the endometrium is the lining of the uterus). A new study from the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) and World Cancer Research Fund International found that keeping weight down via diet and exercise could prevent almost 60 percent of the 49,600 new cases of endometrial cancer that occur annually in the United States. The antioxidants in coffee (both regular and decaf) can cut the risk by seven percent, possibly by preventing DNA damage, improving insulin sensitivity and inhibiting glucose absorption in the intestine. Avoiding high glycemic index foods is also key. The study found that for every 50 units of glycemic load that a woman averages in her daily diet, the risk of endometrial cancer bumps up 15 percent. And they noted that foods high on the glycemic index affect production of estrogen and insulin, the hormones thought to underlie endometrial cancer. Bottom line: obesity is likely the primary driver of endometrial cancer, as body fat produces estrogen, which stimulates the uterine lining.

Holy Basil for Stress Relief

Instead of getting a prescription for your stress, consider trying a natural and sacred plant: holy basil. Also called tulsi, holy basil (Ocimum sanctum) is a sacred plant in India with strong, clove-like aroma and taste. It demonstrates a lack of toxicity and a variety of benefits, including reducing inflammation, protecting the body and brain from harmful effects of stress, and exerting a positive influence on mood. It is safe to use with pharmaceutical antidepressants.

Mustard For Prevention of Colon Cancer

We take mustard for granted, but this often-ignored spice contains special polysaccharides that can help prevent cancer. Canadian researchers have shown it to be effective in preventing colon cancer, the third-most common type. Researchers showed mustard actually blocked the cellular changes that trigger cancer. Lab animals had a 60% decrease in precancerous lesions that lead to cancer. The best type: Use mustard seed itself. The white seeds are best. Mustard greens are also an excellent choice.
Imagine—reducing your risk of cancer up to 60% with just one food.

Breast-Feeding Cut Risk of Diabetes

Nursing moms may be protecting themselves against diabetes later in life, say scientists. Breast- feeding for just one month can halve the risk of pre-diabetes, a condition that often leads to full-blown diabetes and heart disease, reports the  journal Diabetes. A study of 704 women found that gals who breast-fed had healthier levels of blood fats and glucose than those who bottle-fed, lowering the threat of diabetes by up to 56 percent.

Soy Help Gals fight off Cancer

Women who eat lots of soy-based food are 40 percent less likely to get certain cancers, says a new report I the International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Experts, who tracked the health of 169,000 women, believe it’s because soy contains compounds that act like estrogen to lower the risk of contracting ovarian and endometrial cancer. Soy milk, soy sauce, tofu and many vegetarian dishes all contain the health-giving bean.
